On Friday 20 May, between 11 am and 6 pm, we wish you a warm welcome to an inspiring and educational day in Kungsträdgården. Research & Health is being arranged for the third year running, a day where the focus in on your state of health!
Lots of activities will be on offer in the park, all linked to this year’s main themes which are Allergies, Good habits, Pain, and Medical care of the future. Here you will be able to meet prominent, researchers, medical care professionals, some well-known faces from trade and industry, the world of sports, and artists who will join forces to spread the message about ways of creating world-leading care services in the future. There will also be a fun-packed area for children and young people which the whole family will enjoy!
The day will start with an official opening ceremony by Minister for Health and Social Affairs, Göran Hägglund, at 11 am and it will end with music entertainment on the big stage (Stora scen) at 6 pm.
Highlights of the programme
- Do you know how healthy your body really is? Test your state of health at one of our numerous stations
In the park, you will be able to do an allergies test, measure your blood pressure, test your lung capacity, and learn more about how a breast cancer tumour can feel. Lifestyle coach, Maj-Lis Hellénius, will answer your questions about diet and exercise and you can weigh yourself on our body constitution scales which reveal the proportion of muscles and fat in your body.
- Donate blood in the Blood Donor Centre mobile trailer and learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Sign up on the donation register, register yourself as a research subject for clinical tests and join LifeGene – a unique research project for better health
Successful research and medical care are dependent on the willingness of other people – i.e. us – to make some sort of sacrifice and give something of ourselves. If we do what we can, everyone will have a greater chance of continuing to have a good life if they get ill. If we give, we will get back!
- Listen to popular science lectures by some of Sweden’s most eminent specialists
During the day, some twenty lectures on current medical research will be held, including research fellow Carl Johan Sundberg who will talk about exercise and health. Professor Martin Ingvar, one of Sweden’s most prominent brain scientists, will speak about the potential and limitations of the brain. Mårten Rosenqvist, Professor of Cardiovascular Disease, will explain how looking for fibrillation can prevent strokes. - Meet people whose lives have been changed thanks to successful research and medical care
Sören Gyll, well-known personality from trade and industry, who has undergone a liver transplant, and the founder of the 1.6 million club, Alexandra Charles, whose husband suddenly died while waiting for a heart transplant, will speak about their experiences.
- Visit the Research & Health children’s corner
In one part of the park, there will be lots of fun-packed activities for children and young people, which the whole family will enjoy! Here you can do some experimenting together with young researchers from Karolinska Institutet, you can study the human body’s smallest building blocks through a microscope, or meet staff from the children’s hospital, Astrid Lindgrens Barnsjukhus. You can also visit our exhibitors Nobelmuseet, Kamratposten and Falck Ambulans AB.
- In addition, you will be able to have a personal conversation with representatives from patient organizations, hospitals, and medical technology and pharmaceutical companies who will have exhibition stands in the park
